Description
by Elie Xyr (English Translation by LH)- This is the first of 5 books Elie did on this Tahitian Goddess and the native peoples of Polynesian in their struggle against French colonization in the late 1800’s. A huge masterpiece of muscular female rendering. I was lucky enough to see some of Elie’s original pages as he passed through southern California in the late 1980’s on a return trip from Tahiti to France. Each original page measured nearly 3 feet by 4 feet in size(and there are many double pages in these volumes/books)!! How he was able to ink in all this detail while bending over such a large drawing area, I could only guess! The last two books/volumes of this – unfortunately never finished masterpiece – are currently being translated and should be ready sometime later this year(2021). This first part “The Man Who Played With Fire” introduces our main characters and sets up the beginnings of this mammoth undertaking. Pen & Ink rendering at it’s best! 62 pgs.
