FemmeMuscleania Vol. 8

$4.00

From OJH Collection – This is one of 20 picture & article collection volumes my father (Orrin J. Heller)put together back in the 1980’s covering anything and everything to do with women showing and using their strength and muscles throughout history. He was a life-long collector of any media material that featured female strength from comic books to major motion pictures.  He use to go to the circus’s backlots and pose and photograph the women performers, always managing to get back to them before the circus left to give them free 8×10 B&W prints of the photo’s he’d taken of them. This volume has material (both photo & written) on “Barbelles” – women who were lifting weights in  the 1940’s & ’50’s like Pudgy Stockton, Mars Bennett, Relma Brewer, Edith Roeder,  & Edna Rivers. The term was also the title of a Column Pudgy wrote in of the strength & helth mags from the early 1950’s. SOme of those columns are reprinted here. Also material on the lifting of others(Hand-Balancers), which was something one could see regularly at “Muscle Beach” in Santa Monica CA in the late 1940’s. (If there is enough interest in these collection ‘scrapbooks’ I’ll offer all of them here. 52 pgs.
